How this structure was created, when it was created, is still the subject of considerable conjecture, but it was, and it does endure in brilliance…

Poem #7

It is important to acknowledge those who taught you to be more curious.

There are a number of people who I have never met in real life, but who have massively influenced my poetry practice in a direct and significant way. This isn’t fandom, I’m not here to point and stare. It’s about a fundamental reimagining of the way the World works. A number of those people have poems dedicated to them in the pamphlet. Dr Sunny Singh is one.

Over the years I’ve also become increasingly uncomfortable over how the world that I live in remains systemically racist, sexist and disadvantages anyone who does not fit the definition of ‘able-bodied’ or ‘attractive’. Sunny has done so much to help me identify and eliminate the wilful unseeing in my life, that it seems only right and proper to dedicate this poem to her.

As my poetry continues to evolve, I look for new voices and opinions to guide my progress. Sunny is the first of many people who will be publicly thanked as the journey moves on. I’ll be sending her a printed copy of this poem as an acknowledgement of her influence.

Learning’s not hard. There are some lovely things on the Internet that can help you too, and not all of them will wave it in your face. Watch what you can. Read more. Your brain will thank you for it.
