How do you write? YOU JUST WRITE.
I’ve never been any good at self-promotion. It is particularly difficult when, as a born introvert the immediate desire is to just run away and hope people can work it out for themselves. In the modern world, however, this is not an acceptable means of communication. Therefore, it is time to stand up and do this whole business properly.
Welcome to the part of the Internet I can now legitimately call my own.
May 12th, 2019
This month, there’s a plan to write some important poetry.
For the whole of this month (and a couple of weeks in June because I gotta do website stuff to accommodate the end result), I’ll be creating a poetic fantasy around the town where I live and work. It’s a proper, grown-up endeavour which will eventually be linked to the Places of Poetry website once it goes live. I’ll hold a copy of all the poems here, with photographs and historical information about the places and people.
This is my way of giving back to the town I’ve lived in for most of my adult life, and to put it (quite literally) on the map with a sizeable, significant poetic presence. You can follow my daily blog here, or look at my Twitter feed for stuff as it happens. Needless to say I’m immensely excited to begin this journey as something both personal and integral to the life of the town and its people.
We’re well into the process, and starting tomorrow there’s a week’s worth of photography in store as I zoom around the borough picking up relevant photographic highlights which will illustrate this poetic journey…
I can add the words ‘published poet’ to my CV: a poem entered for the Poetry Society Winter 2018 Competition was picked by poet Rachel Boast as a winner!
I was asked to create a poem under the title ‘The Abstract Space’, based on work from W.S. Graham. Choosing to be inspired by his 1967 poem ‘The Beast in the Space’, I present The Beast in Cyberspace.
