The Closing of the Year

After due consideration, our content for December is now finalised.

I’m going to use December to re-introduce myself to the World in general via the medium of #Blogmas. It might grab me some new readers, which is never a bad thing. It also gives a buffer for existing content to be built up (see last Friday’s post) and for some much needed editing to take place of older stuff on the site. Mostly, this is an excuse to give everything a good clean and rearrange ready for 2019.

There’s the normal Twitter-based stuff too (as we discussed last week) with the addition of the two playlists above. I’ve spent the last few days getting the static pages for both #Soundtracking2018 and #Narrating2018 up to date and let’s be honest, this is almost a year’s worth of work to feel justifiably proud of. I’m already looking forward to the next 12 months of content. Have you SEEN how much stuff is lying about undiscovered on YouTube???

Finally, it is time to go hunting for ONLY THE BEST Christmas .GIFs for your entertainment and delight via Twitter. We have a plan, and it is AWESOME. Also, so much shonky stuff this year that you’ll be mildly staggered at the minutes of work involved…

Sleigh Ride

It’s mid November, and although it might be a wee bit early to shove up the decorations, we can start the process of planning for next month.

Americans are about to do that Thanksgiving thing shortly, but let’s be honest, a day is not enough. I have loads of people to thank in 2018, far more than I could ever fit in a blog post or a single Tweet. Therefore, for 31 days in December, we’ll be chucking the normal schedule to the wind. Instead, you get a whole month of me using the GIF collection in new and exciting ways, with tons of people who have helped me enormously getting their required moment in the sun.

The Short Story for December has been heavily influenced by the recent commemoration of the end of World War One, and you can expect content under in the #Narrating2018 and #Soundtracking2018. It’s almost a year since we started this journey, after all. That’s a lot of YouTube content explored, but there is so much more still to come.

I’ll also be taking the opportunity to edit and clean up all sorts of places, including the year’s output here. You can expect NEW GRAPHICS and some spiffy ways to help me out as the new year approaches. Mostly, December is me giving back to you guys without whom none of this would be possible.

I hope it’s a great month for everybody concerned.

Thank You For the Music

We’re BACK in action after the much needed and utterly awesome weekend away and this morning, we’re reminding the room all about next month. NaNoWriMo gets it’s own separate post on Wednesday but for now, I’d like to explain how #Soundtracking2018 and #Narrating2018 fit into next month’s timeline.

#Soundtracking2018 this month encompasses 30 songs which inspired this entire ridiculous endeavour to begin with, giving a hint of what you can expect from the poetic ‘narrative.’ A large portion of the action takes place in Paris, a city with huge personal significance in my own existence. Needless to say, in many cases, the song you’ll hear will mirror the scenes imagined in order to create the haiku.

On the flip-side (and as a possible spoiler as to what you’ll see play out across the month) the #Narrating2018 selection is all about coming and going, arriving and leaving, or the beginning (and end) of journeys. It’s also an opportunity for me to throw in more of my favourite romantic comedy moments. I’m a sucker for those stories, and I doubt that is ever going to change. So, next month, you get to share that with me.

Once it’s all done this project is going to have it’s own space on the IoW website, and I’ll be redesigning the space too allowing the accommodation of further projects of this type. I totally love the whole haiku business now, and it’s become an indispensable part of daily existence.

Let’s hope I can do my own lofty aspirations justice.

Hotter than July

It’s a bit late (again) this month, but there are a number of legitimate excuses for not theming July earlier. My Holiday is beginning to appear less of a fantasy and far more reality. It is hot out and I’m getting a tan from walking to the Gym. Yes, it’s the Summer. There’s a phenomenal amount of training going on too, which has at times distracted from the words, but everything’s now sorted. This is now all about the run-down to A WELL EARNED BREAK.

The music will be the anthems helping me through those slogs on the treadmill and with weights, and the cerebral part of proceedings on YouTube will cover those fascinating facts you never knew were true, and in fact really are. No flim flam or swinging the lead here, either: from reputable sources and educational stalwarts comes the truth, and not that flimsy, fake stuff that certain branches of the media and the odd Instagram evangelical loves to extol as the same.

I have a title for the short story, but no actual plot as yet, but DON’T WORRY there’s a couple of contenders vying for attention, and only the best one will make it to the production stage. Plus, of course, we have EX:WHI getting started, and weekly poetry… until August arrives, and I get a month off. But DON’T PANIC, you’ll be getting the best of the year’s poetry so far every day via Social media to keep you occupied.

This is almost beginning to look like it’s been organised…

Summertime

I hate to be the one who points this out, but June is now only eleven days away. This means there needs to be far more training to ride bikes in public than is currently the case, and there is now the commencement of quite serious planning for the #Soundtracking2018 and #Narrating2018 content on the YouTubes. Music’s easy, in that glorious honeymoon period where all songs with Summer in their title are fair game for playlist inclusion. However, that’s not our subject matter for the short story or additional content.

It is time to delve into the utterly bizarre shiz that lives a stone’s throw away from conventional memes and top informative content.

My daughter loves her dank memes, and it was her who made this playlist possible. Some of the stuff she watches is truly bizarre, and once you hit those rabbit holes it can become very hard to get away without losing hours of life. When they say all human life is online, they’re not kidding… and the truly surreal nature of some of it is… well, just that.

I’m really enjoying the preparation for next month’s content.

I hope there’s something within it to both educate and inform.

Electric Dreams

It had been a bit of a struggle to come up with a theme for June’s content, until an idea for the Twitter short story presented itself…

This week’s been a lot about how Online deals with reality and vice versa, and with a cracking idea now in the planning stage, it was time to start making the graphics and planning a way forward…

I’ll sort out the #Narrating2018 and #Soundtracking2018 titles in the next few days, but I severely doubt there’ll be any struggle coming up with suitable subject matters. The Internet’s a big place, after all. It’s also full of some QUITE RIDICULOUS STUFF.

Tightrope

Today is the last push for me to be ready for February’s new Content Onslaught (TM) and, as it stands, things are looking pretty well finished. I won’t get the Short Story archived in one hit as I’d hoped, but it is close enough now for me to not stress about that process happening in a few pieces. The secondary content will follow and be introduced as time goes on, and I have a decent window of opportunity to even take a day off (of sorts) on Friday to organise some domestic stuff.

All in all, the balancing act is beginning to pay off.

There will be a new content appearing tomorrow on various pages too: the January #Narrating 2018 and #Soundtracking2018, plus the first of our short stories will all have their own spaces. It is the necessary evolution of using Twitter as a delivery medium, to place this content in a static space for long-term consumption. It means that stories that I don’t produce in this way but still want to share will have a long-term home, and I hope there will be a lot more of them going forward.

I’ve also reached out to Twitter in the hope of finding someone to prepared to start working with me, perhaps on a reciprocal basis.

I certainly would not have considered this course of action a year ago. I hope it can be the start of steps forward into new spaces and bigger Universes, but until I put myself on the line, I’ll never know.

February Content :: Get It On

After six months of Patreon curation, I’ve begun to grasp that themes are really very useful for focussing the mind. Whether it be a Book of the Month or simply a strand of associative subjects, planning in advance is utterly essential not simply for cohesion. With February marking nine years of Warcraft blogging, I decided to take the easy route for inspiration this time around. This isn’t about romance, however. I’ll leave the hearts and flowers to others, my Month of Lurve is all about the stuff nobody talks about during daylight hours but still counts.

Next month’s short story (serialised on Twitter and then reproduced here in complete form) is a cautionary tale based in an ‘alternative’ England where it is men who are considered as both fairer and weaker sex. Ignoring both tradition and dress codes in a show of rebellion, two lovers decide to build a better future for themselves in the most public manner possible… plus there’ll be the regular weekly selection of Micropoetry and Haiku on a number of subjects relevant to relationships in the 21st Century. I also have some other ideas, and if time permits there may be some erotic fiction on offer.

Well, we all know that’s how this works after dinner and a movie, right?

With video and music streams to complement all this, I’m already rather excited about February’s schedule. What this announcement does is confirm that I’ll be working on the longer form of next month’s content starting today, thus maintaining a constant stream of TOP QUALITY GUBBINS from month to month. If this all works out I’ll also make time for the personal projects I wish to complete, and (hopefully) encourage more people to throw cash at me. I’m not gonna lie, this is the long term aim of all the hard work, and hopefully consistency will end up as its own reward.

Wondrous Stories

This site is still not nearly as ‘done’ as I would like, and as a result, for the next few days, lots of stuff’s gonna get poked and prodded. That will include adding pages for the two new ideas I decided to throw into the mix at the 11th hour on New Year’s Eve, and are already looking like the best ones I’ve had for quite some time. Both are completely autonomous too: they rely on a regular scheduled post, and the ability to organise myself once a week for the next fifty-one.

#Narrating2018 is the more esoteric of the two ideas: taking random memories from my past and recalling them in the present, then using that inspiration as a basis for more content and reflection. This month, that means colour documentaries from the 1950’s to the 1970’s, uploaded by a disparate bunch of individuals to You Tube for posterity. It is memory preservation without the often annoying subtext/soundtrack that modern YT content creators think is funny or relevant. I like my past untainted, so it can be judged objectively.

Then there’s the #indy31 which forms a larger part of #Soundtracking2018: a year’s worth of music that matters to me, on a month by month basis. I’ll be sorting out my You Tube channel next week in anticipation of actual usage, where these songs can go as fully formed playlists, plus some written accompaniment as context. It is all very simple: other people have done the work, I’m just curating the results. It is one of my skills, which should be used to the fullest potential possible.

All these things are a part of my life I live with a passion, but have never really taken the time to share with other people. It seems sometimes like too much effort to do so, when in reality the only real problem is being willing to share. In a world where so many people have lost the basic ability to both accommodate others and embrace their differences, it is high time I left my prejudices at the door and celebrated things just for what they are and not what others tell me to believe. More importantly however, my own, often dangerous inability to think outside the box I live in has the capacity to serve as a real hindrance. If I can show willing to step outside my comfort zones, then maybe this will encourage others to follow suit.
