Occasionally, a story happens in my head that I’m confident enough to write, but am not sure of the direction it will take. These thoughts often never come to anything, and sit in a file full of ‘ideas’ that are then subsequently ransacked for other projects. However, in the case of EX/WHI, the concept became ripe for writing in blocks. Each episode is a page of A4, give or take, and is written in four week-long sequences. I self edit and self correct, without any other input, which (I’m sure) most ‘normal’ writers would baulk at, but the point here is not grammatical correctness or commercial viability.

This is me, recreating a part of my childhood.

When I was nine or ten, I was allowed to stand up in class and tell a story that was made up in my head. This epic tale was written down in a notebook, and every day (for about two weeks) it would be told, in episodes, to my classmates, over whom I ended up having quite the influence. It taught the rudiments of what classic storytelling should be: establish your characters, make them likeable (or at least connectable) and then, present conflict. After that, it is up to the writer to save the day and present an acceptable conclusion.

EX/WHI is the first story I’ve had which allows this style of approach to really shine. MMXCI, which I’m working on as a ‘debut’ has far more reliance on a more involving, personal narrative.

Therefore, it’s presented here for your gradual, weekly enjoyment.

EXWHI redo

Chris Chambers is a CIA agent who’s close to quitting his dream job. Ami Bishop is MI6’s brightest, best female operative and about to do the same. It is not fate that brings them together in London on an average, Spring day, but something far more calculating and auspicious… which knows full well their strengths and weaknesses, plus their limits. Together, they become a beginning (or the end) for billions, plus means to help the other discover a better future in the most unconventional means possible.

Both are unwittingly forced into the most significant of experiments, journey by which Mankind finally discovers that the Universe is not just theirs to evolve within…
